Strella automates the gassing process by turning on auto gas mode close to the time of the desired cycle start time. The generator will turn on when the fruit’s pulp temperature has reached the auto gas reference temperature. In most cases, this will be set to 60°F.
When preparing bananas for a ripening cycle, focus on properly loading the bananas, filling the generator, and turning on the applicable room zones. See How to Complete Room Loading for a full list of procedures.
There is no need to adjust any gas settings. Leave gas in the “off” mode during and between cycles. Strella will turn on auto gas at the appropriate timing. This helps prevent unintentional gassing when the fruit arrives too warm. If you accidentally turn on auto gas mode, the Strella system will disable that mode and track that activity in the room event log.
If your facility follows a practice of testing the generator prior to gassing, please conduct that activity before loading the bananas into the app.
The gas status icon at the top right corner of the room page will indicate whether the generator is turned “on” or “off.”

The room logbook will show the exact timing of that activity. As per standard room settings, the gas will turn off automatically after 24 hours.
Here is a typical series of gassing events.

Your can verify whether ethylene has reached expected levels under metrics in the Room Conditions graph. Ethylene should reach at least 120 ppm during the ripening cycle. Room level data populates from Strella devices on an hourly basis.
Your Account Manager will reach out if ethylene is not occurring as expected. If ethylene is leaking from another room or not venting properly an unexpected ethylene banner will also populate.
